| Grooming The waterproof coat of this breed of dog is very dense. It only requires brushing once a week. |

| History Cardigan: Thought to have been present in the UK since around 1200 B.C. It has been used as a cattle dog for much of that time. Pembroke: The Pembroke was developed much later than the Cardigan; in about 900A.D. However it's function as a cattle dog was much the same. |

| Positives In contrast with their short stature, the breed loves long walks and plenty of exercise. They are suited for active households with or without children. |

| Negatives Because they were bred for centuries as herding dogs, this breed has the inbuilt tendency to nip at people's heels if not properly trained. Therefore training at an early age is important. |
